Dungarvan Copper Coast

Named for the geopark along the scenic coastline that runs between Dungarvan and Tramore in County Waterford, this red ale lives up to it's name by pouring an rich copper colour in the glass.
This is a fantastic gem in the Irish Red Ale market and doesn't disappoint. The great thing about it is it's Sherry Casks which add some bite to the taste. This is a wonderfully smooth Red Ale with a definite caramel character created by the use of crystal malt in the brewing process but with an added hop balance that is not always present in red ales and which offsets the sweetness of the caramel flavours.

This adds a certain diversity and character to the Ale which set it apart from other Ales, which I like. It is different and that's what I like about craft beers. You want to try different tastes, different characters and different expressions. This was one of the highlights of the Doolin Craft Beer and Roots Festival and would highly recommend it. Red ales are a wonderful place to start off your craft beer experience. My own first non mainstream beer was Blue Moon which led me on to a local favourite in Clare simply called Dooliner Red Beer which I received a complimentary pint of when my girlfriend and I stayed in the fantastic Hotel Doolin. I suppose because of this I always try and buy as many different Irish Red Ales and I'm never disappointed.

Overall Impression:

Delightful Irish Red Ale that's really worth checking out would recommend works really well sipping beer for having a few quiet ones during Sunday afternoon.

9/10
