8 Degrees Brewing Big River IPA

This is another classic example of what makes 8 Degrees Brewery in Cork so special, it's different, experimental and captures the essence of what craft beer is all about, the want to try out new, slightly out-there beers! This Tasmanian IPA is a great example of that, the name itself " Big River" comes from an Aboriginal tribe located just north of Derwent in southern Tasmania.

This IPA showcases two of Tasmania's wonderful Hops Ella and Enigma, which is a great tribute to Tasmania's wonderful Hop growing culture with a huge selection available.
The beer like all 8 Degree Brewing beers is available in 330ml bottles and this one comes in at 5.3% which is middle of the road  for IPA's of this style. The bottle itself is very pleasing on the eye and well marketed, the logo is easily recognisable and fuss free which I like. The Brewery name itself " 8 Degrees" is based on Ireland being located at eight degrees west Longitude which as it happens is also the perfect serving temperature for their beer.

The beer is awesomely fruity on the nose and stunningly refreshing. On the Palette the beer is light in body and fruity with a hint of passion fruit to take away from all that sweetness to find a balance between the two, although I found it leaned more toward to bitter side of refreshing. The beer is lacking in some body and I feel like more depth in the brew would have cemented the flavour more and really solidified the fruity essence of the beer and cancelled out some of the acidity, on the contrary it lightness means it's very drinkable which is always a plus.
